M. Egberongbe

M Egberongbe is a third-year student at Emory studying Psychology and African American Studies. As an immigrant, M is excited to be a part of the Imagining Democracy Lab to explore and imagine ways to affect and influence democracy outside of voting. M spends most of their time researching as a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow on their project titled “Intersecting Identities: An Exploration of Black Transgender Identity in Lagos and Atlanta” which aims to explore how various societal factors influence the perception and salience of transgender identity among Black individuals in different cultural contexts. M extends their passion for advocacy and community building as Vice President of the Black Student Alliance at Emory, chair of its Advocacy Committee, and member of Emory’s Student Programming Council where they also serve on the Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement Committee.
